![]() In today's day and age, that's a pretty brash move to force a boarder gateway security device to connect with the manufacture, for any reason.Īnyone found a way around this? Pretty much kills my appetite for the product.ĭoes anyone else have a favorite firewall hardware box they like, that doesn't hold you hostage for firmware updates, nor requires registration. Now I'm learning that if you want to update their newer gear (USG 40, etc.) with the later firmware, you must register the device with them, which if you aren't familiar means the device will contact them (for what, who knows, don't care) even if you aren't using the optional subscription stuff. Never purchased any of their subscription stuff either (virus scan, content filter, etc.) cause I use a different DNS-based product without a subscription and I've been plenty happy with that. I've been a big fan of the Zywall USG 50, 100, etc. firewalls for years.
